چکیده
Membrane separation is widely used in wastewater treatment and desalination due to its high performance ability handle feed solutions of different qualities. Despite vast history success, membrane fouling remains a major system deficiency that imposes substantial process limitations by reducing permeate production increasing energy demand. Besides, chemical cleaning-in-place (CIP) adversely affects integrity generates an extra waste stream. Ultrasound (US) relatively new cleaning technique improves mitigating accumulation at surface improving flux promoting mass heat transfer. US-assisted processes efficient method for reduction significant improvement. This study comprehensively reviews US applications pressure-, thermally- osmotic-driven technologies their impact on performance. It also explores the operating conditions properties how these parameters can be tuned achieve desirable outcome. To date, application limited laboratory tests. In authors' opinion, there niche market technology heavily contaminated water such as brine. After critical analysis literature, we found are still several aspects need scrutinized carefully make adequate evaluation feasibility industrial scale. The most urgent one techno-economic based large-scale long-term proposed set recommendations future research directions technologies.

متن کاملMembrane Distillation for Water Recovery and Its Fouling Phenomena
The total volume of water on Earth is circa 300 million cubic miles, with close to 98.0% being salt water and the remaining 2.0% fresh water. It has been increasingly more challenging to harvest fresh water from surface water, seawater and even from wastewater due to the combination of factors, viz. burgeoning population growth, rapid industrialization and climate change. Recently, membrane dis...
متن کاملA review of simultaneous ultrasound-assisted coal flotation
Ultrasound can be used both simultaneously or as a pretreatment technique for flotation to produce higher combustible recoveries, higher heat values, and lower ash data from raw hard coals. The recent research works have indicated that modifying coal surfaces, especially physical surface cleaning with the help of the cavitation process created by power ultrasound at certain frequency and time i...
متن کاملEnabling technologies for robot assisted ultrasound tomography.
Currently available ultrasound (US) tomography systems suggest utilizing cylindrical transducers that can be used for a specific organ. In this paper, our focus is on an alternative way of creating US tomographic images that could be used for other anatomies and more general applications. This system consists of two conventional US probes facing each other while one or several of the transducer...
متن کاملCombination of Electrochemical Processes with Membrane Bioreactors for Wastewater Treatment and Fouling Control: A Review
This paper provides a critical review about the integration of electrochemical processes into membrane bioreactors (MBR) in order to understand the influence of these processes on wastewater treatment performance and membrane fouling control. The integration can be realized either in an internal or an external configuration. Electrically enhanced membrane bioreactors or electro membrane bioreac...
